Mass Media literacy

Mass Media literacy is committed to ensuring that people have access to critical media literacy education. We work with school systems, libraries, community groups, and especially teachers, to deliver training, curriculum, research, and resources that promote the integration of critical media literacy education into K-12 classrooms.

More About Us

MML is Concerned about surveillance technologies in education

As critical media literacy scholars, we are deeply concerned about surveillance technologies in education and how they work to erode the privacy of minors (without their express consent). MML members Allison Butler and Nolan Higdon have published op-eds in USA Today and CounterPunch addressing many of the concerns around surveillance technologies. If you are looking for support to better understand the role these technologies play in your schools and classrooms, let us know!

MML members publish a new Book for young people

Project Censored & The Media Revolution Collective have published The Media & Me: A Guide to Critical Media Literacy for Young People (Seven Stories Press, 2022).

mass media literacy offers professional development points for education

Mass Media Literacy is certified by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to offer Professional Development Points (PDPs) for the critical media literacy training that we offer.

If you or your school district is interested in critical media literacy training AND would like PDPs, please let us know and we will work to get certified in your state

What does this mean?

We offer professional training, along with customized curriculum for use in the classroom, to any PreK-12 educator who would like to incorporate media literacy lessons in their instruction.

Educators or administrators who need to earn PDPs now have the option of signing up for media literacy training. Our 10 hours of Professional Development includes assessments, ready-made curriculum, and the opportunity to co-develop lesson plans.
